5G Internet: Should You Switch?
OZ Reviews the Benefits and Challenges of 5G Wireless Internet
Things to Consider Before Switching

5G Internet Ups & Downs:
  • 5G Internet gets you internet access at your home or business, typically for less than cable or phone companies, and sometimes a LOT less!
  • Data is delivered to you wirelessly from a nearby cell site.
  • Data speeds can vary greatly depending on distance to the cell site. Typical 5G download speeds can be as much as 1,000 Mbps (MegaBits Per Second) but more likely 50 to 200 Mbps.
  • 5G Internet is not available everywhere but when or where it is not available, 4G LTE coverage is almost universally accessible at download speeds up to 100 Mbps
  • 5G Internet requires a wireless router. They are available from the carriers themselves or from outside sources. You can buy one, or borrow one from the carriers. Normally they will deliver it to your house for FREE.
  • 5G Internet is available without a contract or obligation, but that may change.
  • Carriers offer a hefty discount if you "bundle" 5G Internet with a qualified cell phone plan.
  • The 5G Internet router needs to be in a location that receives a good 5G signal and distributes adequate Wi-Fi coverage. A window facing the cell site is ideal and a meter on the device helps you find the best spot. Carriers also sell 'range extenders' to deliver Wi-Fi in more areas of the building.
  • Data speeds can be dependent on cell site usage. If there are lots of mobile users sharing your cell site, expect slower speeds, which would coincide with rush hour. These effects would be less if you're the one closer to the cell site.
  • You are not expected to have Data limits, but your account may be slowed after using a certain limit, like 50 to 100 GB in a month.
  • Hesitant to switch? You can try out most 5G Internet services, and if you don't like it, return the box within a few weeks for a refund. You can keep your old internet provider while trying out 5G Internet.
